ELY CITY COUNCIL

SPECIAL MEETING

August 25, 2009

5:30 p.m.

 

Mayor Jim Doyle called a special meeting of the Ely City Council to order at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday August 25, 2009 in the Council Chambers at Ely City Hall.  Council Members present:  Stephanie Mai, Bob Ballantyne, Bill Grove, and Tom Winkowski; Council member Banowetz absent – excused. Also present: City Engineer Scott Pottorf, Ed Brinton, and Aaron Anderson, City Administrator/Clerk.

 

The City Council met in special session, pursuant to notice as required by State Code, to conduct a workshop session on the Water Tower and Water System Improvements Project.

 

Winkowski moved to approve the agenda as presented, second by Mai; motion carried – 4 to 0.

 

Workshop Session re: Water Tower and Water System Improvements Project.  City Engineer Scott Pottorf gave a presentation regarding design considerations and factors to consider for a project to improve water storage capacity and pressure, including, but not limited to: establishing two “pressure zones” or requiring installation of individual pressure reducing valves, size and capacity of water storage needed, elevated or ground storage, and installation and type of pumping stations each option would need.  The Mayor and City Council discussed this matter with Mr. Pottorf and Mr. Brinton.  It was the Mayor and City Council’s general consensus that the City Engineer should focus on the following two options:

 

Mai moved to authorize the City Administrator to submit an application to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for the Water Tower and Water System Improvements Project to be included on the Intended Use Plan for low interest financing, and to designate the City Administrator as the City of Ely’s authorized representative for said application, second by Ballantyne; motion carried – 4 to 0.

 

Ballantyne moved to adjourn, second by Mai; motion carried – 4 to 0.  The meeting adjourned at 7:27 p.m.
