ELY CITY COUNCIL

SPECIAL WORKSHOP MEETING

NOVEMBER 25, 2008

6:00 p.m.

 

Mayor Jim Doyle called a special workshop meeting of the Ely City Council to order at 6:10 p.m. on Tuesday November 25, 2008 in the Council Chambers at Ely City Hall.  Council Members present:  Bob Ballantyne, Stephanie Mai (arrived at 6:18 p.m.), Bill Grove, Tom Winkowski, and Mark Banowetz (left at 7:15 p.m.).   Also present: Suresh Ganu and Aaron Anderson, City Administrator/Clerk.

 

The City Council met in special session, pursuant to notice as required by State Code, to conduct a workshop for capital and strategic planning for two and five year time frames.

 

Grove, second by Banowetz, moved to approve the agenda as presented; motion carried – 4 to 0.

 

Mayor Doyle and the City Council discussed issues, concerns, trends and opportunities as listed in the January 2008 Goal Setting Report. Items discussed include, but are not limited to: businesses and economic development, budget and fiscal constraints, population growth and development, and infrastructure issues.  A more detailed list is included with the 2009 2 & 5 Year Capital Improvements & Program Plan.  Councilmember Mai arrived during this discussion.

 

Councilmember Banowetz discussed the current condition of the area and national economy and how these conditions are likely to impact Ely and the city’s ability to financially carry out capital projects.  Mr. Banowetz left the meeting at approximately 7:15 p.m.

 

Mayor Doyle and the City Councilmember discussed possible capital level projects to be conducted and completed in 2 and 5-year time frames; including, but not limited to: resurfacing Dows Street, Fuhrmeister area drainage improvements, Water tower upgrades, NW sanitary sewer trunk extension, and enhancing/upgrading State Street. A complete list is included as the 2009 2 & 5 Year Capital Improvements & Program Plan. 

 

Grove, second by Mai, moved to adjourn.  Motion carried – 4 to 0.  The meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
