The
Ely Parks & Recreation Commission is working hard to hold our first fall
celebration. The event will be called
the Ely Fall Fest. The 1st
Annual, Ely Fall Fest will take place on Saturday, October 4th,
2008. Everyone is invited and
encouraged to take part in this town celebration. There will be a kiddie dash, pumpkin decorating, a pumpkin patch,
duck races, inflatable attractions, and other fun activities for the little
ones. Also a 5K Run & 1 Mile
Run/Walk, Bingo tent, a kickball tournament, free afternoon musical
entertainment, hayrack rides, a family friendly bonfire party, and a street
dance with live music. Not to mention
great fall foods, baked goods, snacks, and drinks for the whole family.
|
With
Ely’s rich agricultural history it seemed only natural to hold the town
festival in the fall. It will
encourage farmers to take a break and have a relaxing day with friends before
the busy harvest season kicks into full gear. And for us city folk, a chance to slow down and visit with our
neighbors before the cold temperatures and the hustle and bustle of the
holidays keep us indoors for the winter months. |

5K Race and 1 Mile Fun
Run/Walk. This is a great way to
start your Fall Fest morning as a participant or spectator. The 5K race takes you all around Ely, is
mostly flat with some gradual hills, so it will be fast and fun. The 5K and 1 Mile events will start by the
Ely Fire Station on Main Street; the 5K starts at 8:00 a.m., the 1 Mile at
9:00 a.m. |

History Walk. The Ely
Historical Society will host walks through Ely’s historic downtown area, and
other historic places in Ely. Ely’s
Downtown District is included on the National List of Historic places and was
joined on the list by the Ely School Building (Community Center) in
2006. The History Walk will be a
great opportunity to enjoy a pleasant stroll while learning more about Ely’s
history from volunteer members of Ely’s Historical Society.

Co-Rec Kickball Tournament. The
Ely Fall Fest Kickball Tournament is full, and we can’t take any more
registrations. The Fall-Fest
Kickball Tournament is for teams of eight players ages 14 and up (ideally 4
men and 4 women) at the Ely City Park.
Play starts at noon; so head on down to enjoy an Ely first! Or bring your lawn chairs over to the Ely
City Park and enjoy the neighborly competition. The tournament was expanded from 8 to 12 teams because
of the GREAT response and filled up in just a few days. |
