Ely Community Center The City of Ely is an attractive small community in Eastern Iowa. It was founded in 1872 and remained an unincorporated area until 1903. In 1997 the City held a celebration to mark 125 years of the best of small town Iowa. 2003 was the 100th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Ely. For the last few years, the City has been experiencing a steady growth in residential development. The 2000 census showed that during the last 10 years the percentage of residential growth was the 5th highest in the State of Iowa.. Ely is governed by a Mayor and five Council Members. Further information on the present Mayor and Council can be found by going to the City Council link. Ely is known as the North entrance to Lake McBride. City offices are located at 1570 Rowley Street on the second floor of the brick school building. |
