Citizen of the Year 2023 - Rob Smith

Resident Rob Smith

Upon the submission of a thoughtful nomination, the Selection Committee has named Rob Smith the recipient of the 2023 Jim Miller Ely Citizen of the Year award! Volunteers are the heart and soul of every community which is why Ely is fortunate to have someone like Rob helping make Ely a better place for us all to call home. After reading through the nomination letter, it was easy to see why. “Rob Smith has been an important part of the City of Ely for the past 25 years; he is a highly valued member of this community and is appreciated by so many people”. Over the two decades he has lived in Ely, Rob has been active with the Ely American Legion, St. John’s Church Council and various boards and commissions, just to name a few. He has been a preservationist of Ely’s History and was a wealth of knowledge and support throughout the planning process of the Sesquicentennial in 2022. On top of all of the hard work that Rob has put into this community, his family has also taken the time to give back in so many ways. Denise, Adam, Abby, and Sam follow in his footsteps by sharing a passion for altruism. For these reasons and so many more, it is our pleasure to announce Rob Smith as the 2023 Ely Citizen of the Year!

Please join us in celebrating all of Ely's wonderful volunteers and Rob Smith at the annual Volunteer Appreciation (Community) Potluck on March 26!
