Grateful. That is the word that comes to mind when reflecting on the extremely generous donation awarded to our Parks & Recreation department by FG of Cedar Rapids. In addition to the 6 trees that were donated two weeks ago, they have since donated a whopping 16 MORE trees to be planted within our parks and along the trail through town. These Iowa native trees were given as part of their Planting Forward Initiative. Together we are all working toward the goal of repairing our fragile ecosystem that was drastically impacted by the derecho storm.
These oak, birch, hackberry, sycamore and other varieties will each have a tremendous ecological impact, having the ability to support over 500 different animal species.
On behalf of our entire community, we want to thank FG of Cedar Rapids for donating 22 trees in total to be planted within Ely’s parks and recreational areas. We are fortunate for partnerships such as this!
