Ely Auxiliary Celebrates 5 Years!

American Legion Auxiliary

ST. QUENTIN POST, UNIT 555 AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY

As we rapidly approach the end of the year, we’d like to share a milestone for the American Legion Ely Auxiliary as we are completing our 5th year as a recharted unit. Unit 555 is going strong, and we want to thank the Legion, Sons of the Legionnaires, and the community for of your support these last 5 years.  We are looking forward to many more years to come.

Our mission is to support the American Legion and to honor those who serve by enhancing the lives of our Veterans, Military, and their families both at home and abroad.

We are very thankful to those auxiliary members who stepped up strong and used may volunteered hours after the Unit had disbanded due to lack of auxiliary members. These members never gave up and worked hard to get the membership back which they accomplished, and our unit was Rechartered January 25, 2018.

The current members are active in the community and continue to want to do more. The unit is involved at the county, district, and international levels. We currently have Ely well represent at the Linn County level with: Marlene Mertens, President and Jenny Houlihan, Secretary/Treasurer.

Whether you or your spouse is a Legion member or not, you can still participate in the Auxiliary if you are an immediate family member of a Veteran.

We wanted to share some of our ways that we help the community and others:

  • Provide Scholarships to local students.
    • Care Packages sent to our local veterans currently serving
    • Auxiliary Flags placed on the Auxiliary Member’s graves during Memorial Day
    • Bake cookies as a fundraiser using funds to provide Scholarships, Donations to Honor Flight, Fire Department Events, City events like Spooky Walk and many more
    • Bartending at events held at the Legion which is another fundraiser for us.
    • Dinner provided for all Veterans in the community on Veterans Day.

These are only a few of the many things we get involved with. Our goal is reach out to all Veterans and their family in the area. If we don’t have the resources to help locally, we can direct you to resources that can help you.
