Jan 10 Afternoon Update

Ely City Hall Winter

In this video below, Administrator Miller provides an update on snow plowing efforts, impending snow events over the next several days and addresses the topic of snow at the end of your driveway. You can read his updates below as well:

With the unique situation of three snowstorms in one week the priority for Public Works is to keep streets open. The initial passes will be to keep the roads open and then, once the snow stops, additional passes will be made to widen the roads. Removal of snow piles, clearing of public sidewalks and trails will happen at some point once the roads are completely open.

The primary goal of our plow crew is to remove snow from the roads so they are passable. This requires moving the snow into the right of way areas. Unfortunately, this also means some of the snow is pushed into driveways. We appreciate the effort of residents to push the snow from their driveways into the right a way area, rather than back into the road. If it is pushed into the road, it increases the need for more passes by the plow trucks and it will inevitably find its way back into driveways again.
