City Park Parking Lot Project: Phase 1
April 2024 Update:
The contractor will begin work on this project the week of 4/29. The parking lot and access drive will take approximately two months to complete. The trail will be open throughout this project; be aware of construction equipment crossing over the trail off Northgate Drive. There will be posted signs in this area for trail users.
March 2024 Update:
On January 31, 16 bids were received and reviewed for this project. The low bid being $206,812.25 from Dave Schmitt Construction. The bid came in $50,000 lower than the engineer’s original estimate! Phase 1 of this concrete parking lot will include 41 standard stalls, 3 handicap accessible spaces, a sidewalk connecting the lot to the pavilion area and a chip & seal access drive from Northgate to the new parking area. Construction of this parking lot on the north end of City Park will begin later this spring. Keep an eye out for updates as they become available.
February 2024 Update:
16 total bids were opened and reviewed on January 31. The lowest bid was received from Dave Schmitt Construction at $206,813.25. Council awarded the contract at the February 5, 2024 council meeting. The project is set to begin this spring, as weather allows - with a hopefully completion date of June 30, 2024. Supporting documents from the February 5 council meeting can be found below:
January 2024 Update:
Plans for Phase 1 of a parking lot on the north side of City Park can be viewed below. The parking lot will be accessed by extending Northgate Drive into the park. This project was budgeted to be completed during FY 24. The public had an opportunity to comment on this project at the December 4th council meeting at 7pm.
Request for Bid on Project: CLOSED
The project will involve the following: A parking lot in Ely City Park, as well as a driveway extension to connect said parking lot to Northgate Drive. Sealed bids for the work comprising the repair or improvement as stated below must be filed before 2:00 P.M. on January 31, 2024, in the office of the City Clerk, 1570 Rowley Street, Ely, Iowa. Sealed proposals will be opened and bids tabulated at 2:00 P.M. on January 31, 2024, in the office of the City Hall, City of Ely, 1570 Rowley Street, Ely, Iowa with the results being reported to the City of Ely City Council at its meeting at 7:00 P.M. on February 5, 2024, at which time the City Council may take action on the proposals submitted or at such time as may then be fixed. The City of Ely City Council reserves the right to reject any or all bids, to waive informalities or technicalities in any bid, and to enter into such contract, or contracts, as it shall deem to be to the best interest of the City of Ely.
